Har Jeong Kai Burger, Korean Burger??

Ordered a Har Jeong Kai Burger thinking it's Korean food. But turn out to be 虾酱鸡 Burger...

EwF by Everything With Fries @Orchard Central

The Har Jeong Kai Burger is too salty for my liking, but the Cha-Siu Burger taste not bad.
The flavoured fries also not bad. But I think it gets soggy a little too quickly. Maybe that's a sign it is not those McD-style over-processed fries. But for a restaurant who uses fries as its signature dish, it definitely need some more improvements.
But for guys out there, there are a lot of eye-candies. The fast food restaurant is fully-manned by friendly =)

All in all, it is not the type of restaurant that I will go for a second time in the near future, but it's not bad for a first try when you run out of places to eat in this little red dot.

Kuching Kolo Mee on Singapore Channel U

In this episode of 《我的食习日记》 my hometown, Kuching (Sarawak, Malaysia) is chosen for Ben (杨志龙) to learn some dish in his Channel U 'Food Apprentice' Show 《我的食习日记》. It is a show where instead of having famous chef demonstrating the way to cook, Ben has to learn from the local chef, and at the last day of his training perform the dish for his masters to examine his skills.

And what food can better represent Kuching if not Kolo Mee.

Will I see the familiar 'Channel U endorsed' food sticker on the stall the next time I visit
Whether they have the sticker or not, I just hope they won't increase the price again...
By the way, it is still possible to get Kolo Mee at RM2.00 in Kuching. Cheap eh?

If only SweetTalk tastes half as good...

KOI Cafe’s Red Tea Macchiato

The frothy milk added on top of the tea instead of blending it together, gives me alternative ways to savor the otherwise commonly-available milk tea.
A layer of think milky creamer first strikes your taste buds, followed by the characteristic flavor of brewed tea...

If only SweetTalk tastes half as good...

Would like to try 贡茶 someday...

Malaysian-KEVIIans '05 Dim Sum Gathering

A Dim Sum Buffet Gathering for the Malaysian-KEVIIans of 2005 at Dragon Gate Restaurant, initiated by Charlie.
Initial confirmed no. of ppl coming was 7.
Then after some persuasion and/or sarcasm and/or 发烂炸ism, the number of people present on that day doubled.

Anyway, it has been quite some time since we last met. Mainly because many of us no longer stay in hall after year 2, or graduated after year 3. Many of us seems to have put on some weight. Either because life outside is more comfortable, or life in hall is more stressful, that I do not know.
Nice to catch up with you all. Also good to hear that, despite the economic crisis, all of us have manage to secure a job. =)
Let's meet up again some other day.

-----------------------------------------------
Not sure if it is just me, but I think the dim sum at Dragon Gate isn't as nice as the last time I went with Float Design Team.
-----------------------------------------------
Dragon Gate (HarbourFront Centre) is a member of the Starling Group of Restaurant, which also includes Orient Ocean (Hotel Miramar), and River City (Excelsior Hotel).
Check the price of the Lunch/Dinner Buffet here.

Happy Birthday, Shin!

Happy Birthday, my Dear!
May all your wishes came true!
----------------------------------------------------
We went to celebrate at Empire State at Iluma.
Rather nice place, with very friendly waiter/waitress, delightful ambiance...
And most importantly GOOD FOOD!!
at reasonable price.
We ordered a Crab-fat Prawn Spaghetti, their House Burger, a Sizzling Brownie.
The burger really come in a big portion with authentic freshly cooked beef patty (not your normal McDonald factory manufactured patty). I'm not someone who is picky about pasta, so I cant really comment on it, but it tasted good with fresh prawns. The walnut brownie served with warm, fudgy, rich, gooey, sinful chocolate and a mandatory scoop of vanilla ice-cream makes it truly an indulgent dessert.
Yum... Yum...
Above all that, the light-hearted menu, with funny quotes as ''The only time I go on a diet is while I'm waiting for the pasta to be served," and the many 'Did you know...' corner really keep us entertained while waiting for the food to be served.
Now I know why there is no 'HAM' in HAMburger.
It's 'cos the term "Hamburger" is derived from Hamburg (a city in Germany). And not some burger with ham!
(read the 'Did you know...' at the lower left corner)
----------------------------------------------------
For those who still cant link the Empire State Building with a gorilla, maybe this picture will help.
The scene of King Kong (1933 or Peter Jackson's 2005 version) climbing up the Empire State Building, fending off some biplanes, and later fell off to his death is a classic in movie history.

NUS officially moves into its year end holiday.
So no more hall food for us for a month.
To save money, and partly to prevent us from eating from the same PGP stall everyday, we decided to cook our own dinner.

(Kangkung)

I miss my dinner gang in Lund.
How are you guys?

9 August 2008

Top 10 of My Favourite Food Cooked in Lund

#10 Cornflakes Chicken
This is me & Jimmy's creation. Muahaha.
Nicely marinated chicken with crunchy cornflakes.
And fried till golden brown.
Tip(s):
Best if marinated overnight with Soya Sauce, Pepper, Salt.
For the cornflakes to stick to the chicken, use only Egg White (NO yolk).
Fry at medium heat.

#9 Corn Soup
Mum's Recipe. One of my personal favourite.
Cooked with sweet corn, minced meat. When everything is cooked, add egg and stir.
Tip(s):
Best if use Green Giant "Cream Style Sweet Corn"

#8 Bak Kut Teh
Need I say more. Even the Europeans say it's good when Kang Wei cooked it for his Vildanden floor mates.
Cooked with pork with bone, and the Bak Kut Teh packet from Singapore.
Tip(s):
The longer you boil, the better the taste.
For me, it is even nicer if left overnight for the pork to absorb the essence of the soup.

#7 Har Kau
This isn't really prepared by us. We bought it from Malmo 'Chinatown'.
But what I'm proud of is the way we cook it without a proper wok.
1st, fry till one side is slightly crispy. then add water and cover pan to steam.
and there you go. Har Kau which is crispy on 1 side and 入口即化on the other side. so you can have the better of both in 1 dish. =)
Tip(s):
err... considering the price... maybe money can be better spend on something else??

#6 Pork with Potato
Another mum's recipe.
1st, fry the potato, and set it aside.
Then cook pork with ginger and spices.
Finally add the potato, and oyster sauce and soya sauce.
Tip(s):
When cutting the meat, try cutting in the direction perpendicular to the muscle fibers, to avoid it being too chewy.

#5 Imperial Chicken
Fitting a whole chicken into a pot of ~20cm in diameter and ~15cm deep prove to be a challenging task. So, what I did was to use another pot of equal diameter to cover it instead of the original cover. =)
Tip(s):
Dun be like us... Use a bigger pot..

#4 Char Siu
My recipe:
2 tablespoon of Lee Kum Kee Char Siu Sauce
1 tablespoon of Tomato Sauce
1 tablespoon of Lingonberry Jam
1/2 tablespoon of Soya Sauce
Look at the ingredients... Tomato Sauce, Lingonberry Jam and Soya Sauce...
They dun seem like they will work well together, but the char siu actually taste quite nice. =)
Tip(s):
Personally I think, smaller slices of pork will absorb more of the sauce.

And here comes the Top 3

#3 Curry
Cooked with Prima Taste Curry.
Just follow the steps printed on the box.
Tip(s):
Like Bak Kut Teh, I think curry is another dish that the longer you cook, the better the taste.

#2 Rendang

Something I wun miss when I go visit my Malay friends and relatives during Hari Raya.
Tip(s):
I still prefer Rendang Beef than Rendang Pork...

#1 Honey Roasted Pork
We modified the recipe cos we dun have the ingredients, and since we are approaching the end of our SEP here, we are not gonna buy more stuff.
Cooked with Honey (duh...), Salt, Black Pepper, Lemon Juice, Sesame Oil & Oregano
Tip(s):
Best if marinated overnight
Pour the sauce/juice over the pork every 10-15minutes for the best taste!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Now at least I can go back proudly and say I've pick up a life skill here.
I KNOW HOW TO COOK!!!

Last Dinner with Dezhong

After Shuyi, Dezhong is the next to leave us for his Euro Trip.
We had Cornflakes Chicken, French Bean with Egg, Meatballs, bit of Fried Rice, and Corn Soup.
It wasn't really a special meal, cos dezhong din request any special dishes.

But....

We do have some special entertainment.

~Naked Man Running~
I dunno what happen to him.
But I guess it is a forfeit for losing a game.
Haha!
We do enjoy the free show though.
A good laugh in the midst of having our dinner.

Last Östra Torn Gang Dinner

Today is the last dinner with the full gang of the 6 Östra Tornians.
(well... technically this is incorrect because Jimmy is from Delphi, and Kang Wei is from Vildanden... But who cares, we always had dinner together in OT.)

Back to the dinner.
Shuyi is leaving tomolo...
Back to homeland Singapore...
Back to the land where you can find all kinds of good food... *jealous glare*
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upon her request, we have Rendang! and Corn Soup!
and we had Mixed Brocolli as the vege, and Fries as the side dish.
And to end the meal, we have applemust from Kiviks Musteri to wash the food down.
Quite a scrumptious meal, i must say...
Despite some cock-ups in the preparations, everything actually tastes quite nice...
And I just love it when we have ~1kg of Rendang that we can eat all we want...
YUMMY~~
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last dinner, last group photo with the 6 of us together.
And looking back....
*taken very long ago when we still have the chilli ketchup
Man! I look so different with long hair...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Shuyi:
Thanks for washing almost all our dishes.
Hope you can perfect your Apple Crumble, and make 1 with at least 1 sigma of consistency.

To Jimmy:
Thanks for coming over early to help out, despite staying in Delphi.
Hope we can come up with more crazy ideas of cooking the dishes. Muahaha.
And we should really try to hit at least 1 sigma...

To Kang Wei:
Thanks for helping out and coming over early too, especially when you stay the furthest away from OT.
And most importantly, thanks for sharing generously with us all your spicies and prima taste packs. A lot of the food wun taste as nice without those paste.
Hope you will finally get yourself a deep fryer and a bigger pot in Singapore. =)

To Dezhong:
Thanks for bringing in some new recipes that I have never thought of, eg. tomato egg, carrot & pork, etc.
Hope you will learn to love garlic in your dishes. *smirk*

To Stanley:
Thanks for doing some of dishes.
Hope you at least learn some dishes from us to bring back to Singapore. =)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guys! We Should Really Meet Up To Have A Meal Together Again When We Are Back In Singapore!
OR EVEN COOK!!
