Happy Mid Autumn Festival

中秋节快乐!!! Happy Mid Autumn Festival!!!
(aka Mooncake Festival in Malaysia. Dunno why it is translated this way. Personally think Mid Autumn explains the celebration better.)

Went to my uncle's place for dinner and mooncake.

十五的月亮....

Steamboat...
Lantern...

Mooncake...

How Singaporean play lantern in HDB
Looking at the kids playing with lantern at the small balcony,
I kinda miss the days where the kids from my lorong will gather together, hang our lanterns on a long bamboo pole, and roam around the neighbourhood together
the days where we will go to the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to 猜灯谜, 燃放孔明灯...

Drawing with Light

Back then, I was utterly amazed by Sand Art (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Invhsa87isk).
Now, I am amazed even more by this "Light Art"...

Really amazing how creative these people can be.

Playing with Fire

Found a cool website where you can play with Flame, and Magic Sparks, and Fire, and Water online.
There are a wide array of Java generated program you can play with here.

My personal favourite is the Flame Painter.
By setting some parameters such as colour, size, opacity, softness, degree of chaos, AND of course with some artistic sense, you can create something like this

Flame Dragon
Or like me, without that artistic sense, some scribble of my initial.
And the coolest thing is you get to save them in high resolution of 1680 x 1050.

Another one of my favourite is the Magic Effect.
Although you can't change anything in this one, it's just as fun to click and drag and see those sparks fire out of your magic wand mouse pointer.
Initially, I wanted to add a <iframe> tag to embed it in my blog. But I guess for something as awe inspiring as this, this guy deserves some credit.
So do check out his website for more here.

No Reply

No reply usually means I am not free at the moment
It may mean I am doing experiment, and I don't want to contaminate my phone with my dirty gloves
It may mean I am watching movie
It may mean I am having a game of chess with Dr. Chow

No reply may mean my phone is on silent mode
I may have left it in my room while watching TV in the living room
It may have rang/vibrated when I was busy (sleeping/bathing/cooking/doing laundry, dishes, etc...)
It may have vibrated when I was walking/running (walking home, catching bus, etc)

No reply may mean I am not interested
It may mean I don't feel like going at the moment, yet last minute I might change my mind
It may mean I don't feel like going, yet I don't feel like rejecting you in the face

When you get No Reply from me, Don't worry, I will reply sooner or later. Unless I am really not interested.

If I get No Reply from you , I guess I shall assume the same too....

Trim Your YouTube Videos

If your eyes are sharp, you will realise the video in my previous post does not start at 0:01.
Did I trimmed the video?
How did I do that?

Simple. Just specify the start point of the video.
For example, I copied the embed code from YouTube.
Then, I delete and replace whatever is behind the YouTube url "http://www.youtube.com/v/oxSoR4Ec9VU" with &start=5. And Wah-Lah, your YouTube video will start at the 5th second.

My embed code looks like this
<object height="505" width="640"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oxSoR4Ec9VU&start=5"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oxSoR4Ec9VU&start=5" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="505" width="640"></embed></object>

Oh ya. The time has to be given in second. Thus 2:48 has to be written as 168

And if I would like to split that video into 4 parts, this is what I can do
&start=5

&start=165

&start=328

&start=488

Simple, eh?

If you want some real trimming of YouTube videos online.
Just visit the YouTube 'idea incubator', TestTube, and click Video Editor.
It allows you to trim, combine, add some video transitions (crossfade, wipe, swipe) and even add soundtracks.

As written in the intro
"TestTube is , our ideas incubator. This is where YouTube engineers and developers test out recipes and concoctions that aren't quite fully baked...."
But I sure am looking forward to more features. =)
Kudos to YouTube!
